Character Counts!

Happy Fathers Day!

I’m not sure how many men follow my blog and of those men who are fathers but cheers to you, and if you’re reading this and know a man who has been a great father here’s to them as well!!

Today I want to talk about the importance of character. Character can mean different things to different people, so I’m just going to give my perspective on what it means to me. Before getting into my thoughts I decided to look up the definition of character, the Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines it as “the way someone thinks, feels, and behaves : someone’s personality”.

Because we don’t know what someone is always thinking, and at times can’t share empathy for ones feelings, actions are used to judge someones character. Actions can say a lot about a person without them saying anything at all. For me actions have always been the best way to gauge how someone feels, their thought process, goals, and aspirations.

I am quiet by nature (until you get to know me of course, then look out 🙂 lol) so I pride myself on being pleasant when I’m speaking to someone, respectful, kind, and thoughtful. I prove these things by the words I choose, my disposition and how I react to situations, to give those around me an understanding of who I am. People may not always understand my motives or agree with my actions, but the point is I do my best to be honest and sincere.

Sometimes your character is all you have to go by, and if it’s preceding you wouldn’t you like it to be deemed as something positive? Accolades, diplomas, and popularity can only bring you so far. People will always remember how you treated them, how you treat others, your views on topics, etc. I’m not suggesting that you become a people pleaser  by any means, but you should however consider the imprint your leaving on others. Your character can be the difference between you getting a job or not getting a job, making friends, or even saving an intimate relationship. Enhance the good qualities of your character, and improve the aspects that could be worked on.

Always shoot for being the best you that you can be and you’ll never have to worry about your character because you’ve already put your best foot forward 🙂 I hope you enjoyed my Sunday morning thought, now get out there and seize the day! Until next time…
