Be the change and make the difference!

Good Morning Everyone! I hope you all had a great 4th of the July weekend 🙂

Today I want to talk about being the change you want to see in the world. Let’s face it there is a lot of craziness going on in the world today. Between wars, poverty, innocent people dying everyday, homelessness, and natural disasters, it seems like the world can’t catch a break. So if all those things are overwhelming for you, imagine how the people feel who are going through it. So what can you do about it? If you’re like me you want to do all that you can, but you may not know where to start or have the time to invest to do it.

Well I have good news for you, there is always something that can be done. Of course it would be awesome to do something on a larger scale but sometimes you just can’t due to your own circumstances, or you don’t have the resources necessary. But you can start in your own backyard, right in the community in which you live. I think oft times we forget there are people suffering right around us that need help but they go unnoticed because they aren’t on the news. Think about it, you get home from work or school turn on the news and most times it’s about things happening in other states and countries, with a small segment on where you live. But there are people who need help right down the street from you (figuratively speaking or literally depending on where you live) that didn’t make the headlines. So here are a few steps I conjured up to help you get the ball rolling.

The first step to change is you, you must have the right attitude if you want to make a difference. Make sure that whatever it is you want to change whether it be your attitude, the company you keep, or how you spend your time is a realistic goal. You typically can’t help anyone else unless you yourself are together, the fact that you want to change or be the difference in your community can spark change in others; but they have to see that you’re committed and you’re serious. I’m not saying the only way to help others is if you yourself are perfect, because if that was the case we all would be working on self improvement forever. But it is good to be settled and secure in yourself so that when you are ready, your focus can be on the task you have chosen.

Step two, decide what your passion is. What would you like to change? If there are a million things you’d like to do, make a list and tackle them one at a time. If your’re unsure, Google community service ideas, how to change laws, or whatever it is your interested in. I google everything, so much so that my friends call me “Mrs.Google a.k.a the Google Queen”. Google is such a great resource and they’re aren’t too many things that you can’t find on there. Try looking up places like, the local Mission, Shelters, Soup Kitchens, nursing homes, after school programs etc, etc. Just do your research and find what you love.

Step three, get out there and do it! You can’t change anything with ideas that remain in your head lol. You’ve sat down and choose an area of interest now get out there and put it into action. Doing a good deed is contagious, so bring a friend along, you never know what the two of you can conquer together.

We can’t change the world over night and some of our efforts may go unnoticed but the point is we tried. You took your little corner of the world and made it better by helping someone in need, or changing an aspect of your community; that in itself is a great task. Today I learned what it is to be a Catalytic Person. Catalytic means: “relating to or involving the action of a catalyst”. You can be the start to an everlasting change of events! Even if you only touch one person you have done your part, because now there is one person who is better off because of the unselfish act you did.

So let go of the excuse that there is nothing you can do to change the world, because you are the change that the world needs 🙂
